Sooo, artist question

Mon Apr 18, 2011, 12:30 PM

Have you ever had a commission sitting around for awhile, and know you needed to do it...but didnt have what you needed yet? But you were brainstorming it anyway, planning things out and the like...and FINALLY get whatever reference or what-not you need....and suddenly as you sit down to work...you just feel blank about it?

Like, no desire to work on it what so ever? Sure you know you need to complete it, and you WANT to, but whatever you do you just arent SATISFIED with it! What do you do? @-@

Im stuck in that position. D: And I reeaaally wana do my best on this picture and make it look good, but its been sitting in my que for a good couple months and I feel bad. ;-; I cant afford a refund cuz I need the money, but as I stare at the basis I have worked out I just CANT. GET. UP. MY. ARTIST. DRIVE.

My suggestion is to show progress pictures to your client. You may not be totally satisfied with the piece, but it is their opinion of it that is the most important.

To get myself into the artsy mood, I surround myself with inspiration. Be it music, movies, other creations I've made, pieces from artists I admire, etc.

What sort of picture is it and what about it is giving you a hang up?

Well mostly its a background. The background is a music store, and I went out and took a photo of the surrounding he requested, just for this piece.

However backgrounds drain me sooooo fast. And the more I look at it the more unsatisfied I am.

If I feel like the picture is a flop....but the commissioner enjoys it, I feel like Im cheating them of something. x-x
