So my mom comes into the kitchen, after I finish watching supernatural, and says,"So skittles got another bird." I just rolled my eyes,"Another mockingbird?" She shrugged.
"I dunno, I think its alive in the yard still." I JUMPED UP AND RUSHED OUTSIDE. Of course.
I look around, and its hard to see because its dark, but sure enough there is a little bundle of fluffy feathers. It looks like a mockingbird at first, so I throw a towel on it after making sure it cant fly. Little thing simply ran on its feet, flapping its wings like crazy. Sadly it didnt get into the air. So after throwing the towel on it I carefully scooped it up and brought it inside.
I had to BEG my mother to let me keep it in a bird cage or box or something. She INSISTED I just leave it outside. Maybe it will fly off. But Im DEAD beat sure that it cant, and we have loooots of cats in our neighborhood, so if I leave it outside im sure i'll find the poor thing dead tomorrow....
So I carry it around gently at first, my heart pounding and 'motherly' instincts on FULL HIGH ALERT. I keep tryyying to find our old birdcage but the blasted thing has gone missing!
Instead I resign to a box I just HAPPEN to keep in my room, place some towels in the bottom, and my sister gets a bowl of water it can either bathe in or drink from until morning.
We have a towel lightly over the top, the sides open so it can breathe. After further inspection I realise its a baby blue jay! Im ecstatic cuz blue jays are one of my faaavorite birds of aaaall time <33333
Thing is so CUTE. And curious! He's all quiet now. Sometimes he'll peck once or twice at the box. I just giggle cuz I think its cute. But its safe now.
My dad told me to take it outside too, until he learned it was a baby bluejay, then agreed with me that we should keep it in tonight until tomorrow, when I will sit in the garage, watching the baby from there. I plan on setting it out, not touching it with my hands, in the grass and wait and see if the parents come for it. I'll stay as long as it takes, and if no birds come......well I dont know what then. I'll think of something.
Im already attached. And praying it can get back home. He has such spunk.
I decided to call our new little blue friend Ciel.
